A lot of hopes and mucho investment is going into this show. What are our thoughts on this fast approaching show...Will we close out the year with a bang or have to wait until Chicago to see the benefit of a great dental trade show???
In my daily Google News review ('dental'), I've noticed a number of companies will be launching new products at the GNYDM. Also, it appears that new research on dental stem cells will be presented there. Although this shows optimism on the part of industry and clinicians, turn-out by the profession still needs to be seen!
Good luck at the show everyone and have a great Thanksgiving!
Several manufacturers have cut back on personnel attending the meeting. I know I mentioned this before, but I hope the weather is decent. Not too warm, not to rainy or snowy, cold will work. It seems that if the weather is nice then golf or shopping becomes more important than walking the floor. Rain or snow keeps people from coming to the meeting. Bitter cold will work.
Just returned home from 2 days at GNY with Dentsply. Traffic on Sunday was very steady all day up until around 4:30. Sales were solid and there was a good deal of buzz surrounding our Midwest Stylus ATC "hybrid" handpiece and the Midwest Caries ID. Good number of foreign dentists (I counted 9 different countries I spoke with!). Today (Monday) was a slow down of sorts, lots of NYC dentists and a showing of Northern NJ. Sales were equal to Sunday and I think we all felt confident about how things went. Back to my territory for the remainder of the week while my cohorts stay in the Big Apple to bring it home in style.
Monday was definitely slower, but still busier than last year. Again, Sunday was great, mostly everyone was busy although heard Schein was a little slow not sure about Patterson or Benco. Voco had one of there best days on Monday.
It really seems to help if you have a good speaker. You do have to have a reason for the dentist to seek you out in these big convention centers.
Have a bunch of pictures which we hope to get up after the meeting.
Wednesday traffice seemed a bit off. Overall the mood was much more positive than years past. Taking a look outside the Convention center you could see at least 10 cranes building condos in the city. Things are not that bad!!??
I returned from New York yesterday afternoon. It was a very good show for us! Doctor traffic seemed up (at least in proportion to office staff and students) and there were a lot more international dealers and doctors than I expected. our decision to scale back personnel was the right one, as even during busy times, our folks were able to handle things.
It was great meeting some of you in NYC and I hope to get another opportunity to do so in Chicago!
